Creative Capital: Community mobilisation with Amiria Puia-Taylor

Creative Capital is a podcast from Te Taumata Toi-a-Iwi about advocacy and systems change. Hosted by Elyssia Wilson-Heti (FAFSWAG), it explores the role that arts, culture and creativity play in Tāmaki Makaurau - with a focus on the people behind the work and their vision for the future.

Amiria Puia-Taylor, a cultural and community arts manager discusses embracing indigenous culture in creativity, bridging urban and rural youth through mural arts and using art for healing. She also reflects on mobilisation through unity and embracing safety and love for community growth.

Born and raised between the cross cuts of Tāhuna Pā, Waiuku and Grey Lynn/Ponsonby, Amiria Puia-Taylor’s whakapapa ties her to the heart of South Auckland. A proud daughter of the Moana, she has been fortunate to shape a career in being a creative; as a People Weaver, Placemaker and Cultural Arts Manager passionate about serving her hapū, iwi and community through culture and creativity.

She has led and supported the establishment of a variety of Not for Profit arts organisations such as The 312 Hub, Aotearoa Urban Arts Trust and Ngā Atua Hou Ltd. She hopes to contribute towards a happier, healthier and self-sustaining community.
